About

Deep Creek Winery is a small family operation tucked up a hilltop drive outside Bryson City, with the Great Smoky Mountains spread out below. Rob and Heather Acton turned a former horse barn into the tasting room, fermentation space, and bottling area. Rob makes the wine in small batches, using grapes brought in from California and beyond. You can order by the glass or bottle, or sit down for a table-service tasting and work through a white or red flight. A few labels turn up again and again in conversation: the peach Chardonnay, the award-winning Zinfandel, and the Fireside Red. Pair any of them with a charcuterie board, and the staff will walk you through what you're drinking. A couple of things to know before you go. This is an adults-only room, 21 and up, with no pets or children. Seating is limited, so they take walk-ins on a first-come basis rather than reservations. The drive in includes some narrow, twisty mountain roads, so take it slow and follow the signs. Bring a designated driver, settle in with a glass, and let the view do the rest.

This is probably one of the best wineries I have visited. It's nestled on the side of the mountain, away from the busy of Bryson City and Cherokee, but still worth the drive. The atmosphere is pristine. You get quiet mountain views, amazing wine, fantastic hosts, delicious cheese, AND friendly dogs to pet and play with. Our group spent 2 hours here relaxing on the overlook, tasting great wines made there, enjoying amazing cheese, and playing with the pups. The owners are very friendly and informative about thier wines and welcoming to those who make the trip. I've noticed some slightly negative reviews, excluding the one that, obviously, couldn't read. This is a winery, they serve alcohol. It's a very quiet and enjoyable environment....don't bring your kids. There's only a sign every 30 feet advising 21 and older only, not to mention on thier site. They have thier own dogs. For obvious reason, don't bring yours. They serve wines they make. This isn't bottom shelf, box wine, it's not box wine prices. It's a fantastic, reasonably priced experience that you will remember. Would highly recommend visiting this jewel nestled on the mountain side. Relax on the deck, enjoy thier wonderful abilities to create wine, have some amazing Amish cheeses, and play with a pup or two, you won't regret it. Don't forget to take a bottle or two or six home!
